Mark Knopfler

Rock legend Mark Knopfler has revealed one of the songs on his album was inspired by his time as a copy boy on the Chronicle.
Basil is the second song on the album Tracker and is about the poet Basil Bunting who was a reporter for the newspaper at the same time.

Mark, who was brought up in the North East before finding fame with Dire Straits, recalls how the famously grumpy poet left a lasting impression on him when he had a Saturday job in the sports department.
